Looking back
Ah! It’s almost the end of the year. A significant time which has most of us reflecting back on the past year, and looking forward to the new one. And for many of us, we want to change and improve on things, so we make resolutions. I resolve this year I will __________(fill in the blank).
There’s a saying you’ve probably heard: The definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over, yet expecting different results.
And how many of us start out the New Year with thoughts like “This is the year I am going to get my weight under control. This is the year I will stick to my diet and exercise plans. This is the year I won’t let stress drive me to the fridge. This is the year I am going to really be good and get the weight off.”
Let me ask you…did you have these kind of thoughts around late December 2007? And how is your weight now, a year later in December 2008? If you aren’t closer to your goal now than a year ago, you need to change what you’ve been doing, to change the results you’re getting.
As you look forward into 2009, I challenge you to find new ways to think about, deal with and ultimately conquer your weight. I challenge you to get to the root of why you overeat in the first place, so that you can neutralize that reason(s) and move forward into the life you deserve.
You can do it! Start 2009 committed to yourself, to your discovery process, to learning new things. And then be excited about what December 2009 will bring, as you look back over the year and realize that you were smart enough to take different steps and overjoyed that you got different results.
Happy New Year!
