Thoughts on Forgiveness:

"If you haven't forgiven yourself something, how can you forgive others?" Dolores Heurta

Forgiving yourself for all your past "weight transgressions" is an integral part of moving forward and achieving success with your weight.

Note that forgiving yourself is NOT the same as giving up, or going on a binge.

So no matter how many times you've failed at getting the weight off, or eaten the wrong thing, or skipped your workout, forgive yourself immediately. And then get back on track, which will be much easier without the weight of guilt on your shoulders.

The Days are Getting Longer

Many people comment that February is the hardest month, but I beg to differ. In my experience, January is the worst month of the year. It’s not only cold in January, but the days are so short and the nights so long and dark. It takes a real willing of self to get my behind out of a comfy bed on a January morning when it is still pitch black outside. And January is a long month, with a full 31 days. In Canada, January 30th is traditionally the coldest day of the year. So I say, bring on February!

By February, the days are getting longer, and it is now longer pitch black in the mornings. It is even light out at 5-5:30 pm when my husband gets home from the office. It’s a short month, only 28 days, and then we are onto March, with the official start of spring. February is also a month when chocolate is in full force, and we are encouraged to eat it! (I love chocolate and eat it every month, but love that there is more of it in Feb!)

In a couple of weeks it will be Groundhog Day, a day all of us northerners look forward to with our fingers crossed. In case you don’t know, Groundhog Day is in early February, and as legend would have it, the Groundhog comes out of hibernation and wanders out to see if he can see his shadow, depending on whether it’s a sunny day or overcast. The appearance of a shadow means we still have a long winter to go, and the lack of a shadow means that we only have 6 more weeks of winter. You wouldn’t believe the hype and hoopla that can accompany Groundhog Day, and the groundhog himself. For instance, when the last Groundhog Day groundhog passed away after years of loyal public service, he was treated to a funeral fit for a king! Afterall, our hopes and dreams for an early spring all ride on this little fellow’s shoulders, so he deserves some attention for his troubles! LOL

Right now, I am in the throws of being extremely tired of the dark, the cold and the snow. But in a couple of weeks, I will literally be able to see the light at the end of the winter tunnel, as spring emerges once again. Bring it on I say, bring it on! It can’t happen soon enough.
