Stacey points out that the real reason why we are overweight has more to do with internal factors than external factors. It has to do with how you perceive yourself and what you believe others think of you. (whether justified or not.)
I realize after reading Why Are You Weighting? that a lot of my ideas about my weight came from when I was a child. Over the years I tried every diet in the world, even going as far as weight reduction surgery. but yet I’m still overweight. Why?
After reading this book, I realize that all the beliefs I had growing up about myself…that I was a loser (compliments of my sister) and that perhaps I wasn’t good enough (why my mother abandoned me) all played over and over and over again in my subconscious. So that even though on the surface I knew what I was doing as far as loosing weight, my subconscious was telling me otherwise.
The book touches upon so many points that I never really considnered before. There is so much valuable information that I am reading it AGAIN just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.
This is NOT another “self-help” book, nor is it a diet book. There is no “diet” as far as Why Are You Weighting? is concerned. This is a book about YOU and what goes on INSIDE of you that keeps you on this vicious merry-go-round we call weight loss. If you can learn to recognize the reasons WHY you are holding onto your weight then you can find the way to “rethink” yourself to a thinner, happier and healthier you.” – Kimberly V
“I’m glad Stacey wrote this book. For over a decade, when Stacey was a practicing massage therapist (and I her client), Stacey finally came to terms with her own weight issues and lead to her substantial and permanent weight loss. For me, I gained weight incrementally over those years – gaining over 50 pounds at my heaviest weight. Towards the end of Stacey’s practice – and most recently through her book – I have been rethinking myself, and my weight. Thanks to Stacey’s counsel and approach, and I have now been losing the weight (30 pounds down, about 20 to go). And its have nothing to do with dieting (in the typical sense). And I’m keeping it off.” – Chris D
“I am reading an excellent book called Why Are you Weighting?
It deals with the emotional side of eating. The obstacles that many people overcome with eating is often overlooked or not dealt with. This book provides strategies on how to deal with the emotional side of eating. It is very tactical and provides excellent advice on working through this. I think this book is a very informative and appropriate way to assist people with understanding their weight gain/weight loss and how to approach it differently.” – Sherrin P
“I have to confess that I have only read half the book but it is really an amazing book. I can say that your ideas reach further than weight loss. I was telling my wife that my kids should read it too.” – Ken Y
“I’m extremely obese–age 55. I’ve been struggling earnestly to get healthy for about 10 years.
I’m in Week 13 of Stacey’s well-conceived, well-organized and well-executed Triumph program.
Just like Stacey’s book says, “It’s Not the Food that’s Making You Fat.” I know that’s true for me. Since being a part of Triumph I have discovered that my low self-confidence and self-esteem have an effect on my weight issues so I‘m working on those issues to increase my self-worth and success. Now, finally, I’m beginning to feel relaxed and comfortable, not like I’m fighting this major war any more. It’s such a relief, and very hopeful.
Something important for me to know is that I’m the one making the discovery and the choices that are helping me heal. Stacey and Triumph have opened me up so I can find my answers. And that is just what’s happening.
She said that this is really hard to do. She said that if I could just push myself through this hurdle that it would really pay off. She said that she wanted me to succeed so much that if she could do it for me she would, but she couldn’t. She said that I had to do it.
And that’s the point for me. Just as I own all this excess poundage, I own every ounce of burned fat, too. Stacey and Triumph guides us through the process by teaching us what we each need as individuals to accomplish our dreams. If you are thinking about joining the next session, do it. You will have the opportunity to find what you need to create your own dream, what you want for yourself. Stacey and Triumph are a true help to a very complex and demanding issue.” – Sherri D
“I will give you a testimony — I love your book and have recommended it to a number of people. You are such an inspiration!!!!!!!!! After reading your book — I have lost 40 pounds since January and my blood pressure in now down to 128/78 WOW!. Life is great and thing are so positive.” – Debra F
“Stacey Grieve’s Triumph program fills the gap where other programs falter. Rather than just emphasize ‘mind over matter’ with diet and exercise, she helps participants probe their minds to figure out what matters to their body. Rather than try to overcome triggers and bad habits by sheer willpower, she encourages changing them at the source in a logical, step by step way that’s easy to follow and allows YOU freedom to explore YOURSELF and your motivations in a deep and thought provoking way. You won’t regret it!” – Jodi P
“After years (decades actually) of trying to lose weight I realized that it really wasn’t about the food. So when I heard about Stacey’s book and the Triumph program needless to say I was extremely exited! Several weeks into the program now I have lost several pounds and inches – but I’m much more excited about the changes I am
experiencing on a cognitive and emotional level. I am finally discovering the underlying reasons for my excess weight and I am learning how to make the necessary changes to affect lasting weight reduction! This program is just so different, so comprehensive – I know I will be successful!” – Denise M
“When I began reading Stacey’s book ‘Why Are You Weighting’, I felt as though it was saying “Welcome Home” to me. An invitation into self discovery and a real opportunity to make some much needed changes to my life awaited. I need only turn the pages and I would metamorphosis into the new me. That was 10 weeks ago, and what I now know is that nothing comes without real work.
I was blessed with the opportunity to receive a scholarship to the Triumph! Program and as such have received an invaluable gift-the gift of ME!!
In the 10 weeks of the program so far, I have discovered some very important things:
What I think about really matters. My actions will follow my thoughts and when I am out of focus, when my thinking is about the struggle and not on my plan and my goals, my body reacts
It takes real work, time put aside to do the work, if I really want to see results and benefit from the rewards
It is not always easy. Some of the work brings about feelings that, in the past I would have avoided (likely by stuffing it down with food). Avoiding how I feel does not make the feeling go away-it just buries it, and makes it harder to deal with later…kind of like painting over wallpaper…then later on having to strip that painted paper…what a mess!!
Creating good messages through positive thinking and affirmations are not just worthwhile, they are necessary. I sometimes find myself caught up in a daydream of affirmations and that I tell you is time well spent
What began as a quick read through another ‘diet’ book has sparked a journey. This journey is about discovering who I am, what my power is and how I can create the life I want. It is no longer just about the weight or the size of my clothes. It’s about living a healthy lifestyle, being active and making choices that make me feel good-in my body and my mind.
I am happy to say that in the 10 weeks I have been committed to myself and to Triumph I have released 30 pounds.
The support and facilitation on the conference calls is amazing. It’s comforting to know that I’m never alone and the some of the things that I am going through from week to week can be looked at by the fresh perspective of the other participants and Stacey.
Weekly exercises require commitment-to myself and to my Triumph! Group. Each one is designed to evoke thinking, evaluate and motivate. We share our collective experiences and motivate each other.
This experience continues to be so important to me. Stacey is a positive straight forward motivator. She has taught me to be kinder to myself, to push harder than I thought I could and to expect good things. My perspective has changed as I continue this journey. I strive for excellence not perfection and that moves me closer to my goals every day. The program runs for another 5 weeks, but what I have learned will be the focus for my future-I will be an ideal weighted woman who is full of self respect, self love and a deep appreciation for the discovery of who I really am.” – Dawn L
“I read Stacey’s book a few months back and I realized how little she dealt with calories and exercise and much more with the psychology of our ‘bad habits’ and how to break them. Her book can apply to any emotional issues that deal with excess – overeating, smoking, coffee drinking, alcohol, gambling etc. I feel my ‘Aha’ moment came when I realized that all our excesses are more about our emotional unhappiness and that is the key to balancing our eating problems and any other bad habits or addictions we indulge in. The process of recovering from overeating is so much more than counting calories and I think the way she’s written the book is very clear, it’s very friendly and it’s very helpful. Most importantly it’s coming from someone who has walked the walked. I followed many of her suggestions and it’s really all about creating a new way of thinking. I highly recommend this book for any type of emotionally based excesses we suffer.
I hope more people discover ‘Why are You Weighting’ instead of the pricey and short term fixes like Jenny Craig, Nutri System or any other quick fix – not to mention the numerous weight loss clinics that promise fast results but don’t even get close to tackling the real issues of weight – emotionally insecurities and unhappiness.” – Diane W
“I just finished listening to the audio book and I think it’s really great. It helped me understand how my thinking is causing my weight. I finally understand what the subtitle “It’s not the food that’s making me fat” means….it’s kinda like saying “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, same idea. I realize now that I have been trying to eat-away my emotional issues, and that is never going to work and only keep making me fatter. I really recommend this book to anyone who is overweight.” – Robin T
